And they have the AUDACITY to be outraged.

I don't know if anyone read this story, but I thought it was quite interesting. There is a 7 yr old little girl named, Autum Ashante, who lives in New York. This isn't your average 7 year old. She happens to be a talented spoken word artist, as well as an aspiring actress & writer. Well, there is a big fuss over a particular poem she wrote referring to Christopher Columbus, Charles Darwin & Captian Morgan as vampires & pirates. I guess the truth hurts. It's amazing to me how we can live in a society where the word Nigger is in the English Dictionary, yet white people find it offensive when someone tells the truth. There was even a comment stating that she never mentioned how The Black kings in Africa sold their own to the White Slave traders. I think we all may need a History lesson. Yes, there were Kings who bartered and traded africans into the slave trade.. What does that have to do with the Murder and torture of Millions of Blacks? Did those African Kings seek out these Pirates and Murderers? No! There was a specific plan these people had in mind. They came to a land where the language was foreign and the people were strong. They promised these Kings gold and silver and enticed them with riches beyond their dreams. Do you actually believe these Kings knew that women were being brutally raped? Or that children were being sold and taken away from their mother's? No! Slavery has existed from the begining of time. Many slaves were in debt and had to work it off... thus indentured slavery existed. Africans lived a structured life. They had strong beliefs and their tribes were very tight knit. These whites/spanairds couldn't just come into this land and TAKE people. They had to bargain. And that's how it went down. Most people have never seen Shaka Zulu...a true account of what actually went down in Africa.

Anyhow back to my initial point. This child wrote a poem about REALITY. And I guess when you live in a fantasy world and reality strikes, it hits u pretty damned hard... Here is the poem and beneath that is a response to her poem. Now, mind you this little girl was INVITED to recite her poem. Had they NOT read it prior to putting her on a stage in front of hundreds of "impressional" teenagers. I mean, she is 7, so I'm sure she's a HUGE influence. LOL From what I've read she was banned from reading in the district and many parents were outraged! (WHite parents) NOTE: In Santa Monica, NIGGER was spray painted on black students lockers.. there were no WHITE parents outraged, there was a simple apology from the administration and a promise of, "We're doing all we can to rectify the situation"... We all know how the story goes. I'm sure many of us can conjure up countless acts of racism and violence where the average white person turns their head the other way.

"White Nationalism Put U In Bondage"

White nationalism is what put you in bondage
Pirate and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darwin
Drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with
Steel, tricks and deceit.

Nothing has changed take a look in our streets
The mis-education of she and Hegro — leaves you on your knee2grow
Black lands taken from your hands, by vampires with no remorse

They took the gold, the wisdom and all of the storytellers
They took the black women, with the black man weak
Made to watch as they changed the paradigm
Of our village

They killed the blind, they killed the lazy, they went
So far as to kill the unborn baby

Yeah White nationalism is what put you in bondage
Pirates and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darwin

They drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with
Steel laden feet, throw in the tricks alcohol and deceit.
Nothing has changed take a look at our streets.

The Response

I wonder what the response from the mainstream media would have been if Autum had been white?

Interestingly, Autum made no mention of the fact that it was often blacks who enslaved other blacks for the purpose of "selling" them to white slave traders on the African coast in the first place.

I actually "get" the bit about Columbus and slaver Captain (John) Morgan. But what did Charles Darwin have to do with slavery or the oppression of American blacks?

Like all Americans, Autum Ashante has the absolute right to recite her poem wherever she sees fit. But just because she has the right to deliver her diatribe, I also have the right not to like it. And I don't.

She (and I assume her father) should have chosen a different venue to deliver her lines.

But I can't deny the fact that the young Miss Ashante does provoke thought, doesn't she? And isn't that what the "Free Exchange Of Thoughts And Ideas" is all about? Read a differing viewpoint right here and a Fact Check by Roy Innis, Chair of the Congress of Racial Equality (C.O.R.E.) over there.

I believe that this talented young girl is going to continue making quite a name for herself. But whether or not she uses her remarkable gift in order to help or hurt remains to be seen.

And quite a bit of that is in the hands of her father.

Stay tuned.

Teej, here's another hot one for you... See, I'm getting all political now! LMAO

Wah Wah Wah... truth hurts doesn't it? Christopher Columbus no more discovered America than the Pilgrims.. How do u discover something that is already occupied? You're the idiot! lol and you're funny.. all of the history books we have available to us are full of LIES, yet they teach them to our children.

so wat? if it wasnt for them then the 'occupied' countries wouldnt be what they are today. And another thing...u talk like u have a major dislike for white people, yet u yourself are half white. Does that mean ur in a constant battle with yourself??????

Response to the Prejudice Blogger.

Question, Sara... Have u lived in Anaheim all of your life? How many liqour stores are in your neighborhood.. how about drive-by shootings.. Have u lost any friends, family... associates to gang violence or any violence. When you were growing up did you have a house to live in? What type of economic status are u or your family considered?

Let's see.. I grew up in Pasadena and Compton.. Most of my graduating class (men) are either dead or in jail.. There are over 66 liqour stores in the current community I live in (Compton) and NOT ONE bookstore. I spent a lot of my teenage life in Juvenile Halls, Placement Homes and on the streets. I grew up poor, However I was a gifted student. I graduated a year early and had a baby at 19. No one has ever given me anything! I've worked most of my life. My mother is white.. My father is black. My mother's mom abandoned her and sister to marry a black man.. I've never met her in my LIFE! My mom followed suit and dated only black men. My father was thrown in jail when my mother became pregnant with me.. he was beaten and almost killed. My father is in prison now. Has been most of my life. I am successful, aluent and intelligent.I have a degree in Psychology. I'm not rich nor am I afforded the simple opportunities that this country boasts we are ALL entitled too.

I am boxed into ONE category...BLACK.

I know it's difficult for anyone who is non black or hispanic to comprehend or even fathom the crisis that plagues our communities on a daily basis.

It's true that we as human beings have a certain responsibility for our actions. But, if u ever take the time and go back into our history u will see where part of that responsibilty was taken away. I can go back as far as the 60s when the Black family unit was strong. Black men worked hard to support their families. We had many Black leaders then.. all murdered for promoting race equality. The Black Panther movement was a force to be reckoned with at that time. Blacks were becoming stronger in numbers... sticking together and forming black business'...educating our children. What happened? Well, not only did the FBI have a file on every panther or Civil Rights leader in the movement, there is solid evidence that certain people were singled out and murdered..framed and imprisoned for false crimes. Because a strong black man is a threat to this country. This country was built on the blood shed of other's. Indians were raped and murdered... their land stolen... Mexicans were murdered and their land stolen. How can you discover a land that is ALREADY OCCUPIED. Black americans are the only people in this country that were brought here against their will. They are the only people who's history stops at slavery.

I've traced my father's roots back to my great-great grandma who was born a slave. Before that there is nothing! Africans were brought here by the millions..sold and seperated from their families.. never to be seen again. There is no History to locate beyond that. In the 70s crack was introduced into the black community breaking down the strong family unit and leaving most black women single... raising children. Our community has NEVER recovered. It's easy for white people or any other people to say well, blacks are selling crack to blacks... Answer this. How does crack get into our community? There aren't any blacks that own planes or freight.. So, how does it get here?

Now, the present. Why are blacks even in the ghettos? Is it affordable for the average PERSON to even live in the suburbs? What opportunities are afforded in the ghetto versus surburban living? Where are the jobs? If you come here to Compton today, you won't see any black faces working in the shopping centers.. Is that because they lack the skills or are just lazy? Maybe or Maybe not. Most business owners choose latinos over blacks.. Why? Because if you're bilingual you can speak spanish to the majority, which nowadays, here in Southern California, is Latino. There are more chicken joints and chinese food places then any other genre. We don't own these places or have the means to build these places. So, if the neighborhood is POOR, with poor people, who makes the choices about what goes where? Not the poor people that live here. It's no accident there are liquor stores on every damn corner here.

If you go to Anaheim... what do u see? Beautiful homes. Clean streets... or will there be bums hangin out on the corner begging for change.. prostitutes right across the street from where your children go to school... Hell No...Why? Is it because the people there are better than the people in the ghetto. Hell no. It's because the majority of the population white. They have money and they make sure their city is kept in optimal condition.

The truth is racism is still alive and well! People want to pretend like it doesn't exist or that blacks and latinos are in a far better place than there were say 50 years ago. Sure, the hangings have stopped... the Klu Klux Klan may not be burning any flags, but the seed still exists and it's roots are embedded deeper than they've ever been! WE are still the minority. Why are there more prisons than schools? More police than teachers? How is it that now our children are aspiring to be rappers/athletes... instead of doctors or lawyers...Why are the students in the Black neighborhoods well below the reading/math standards as compared to white schools? Why does my son have to play in a dirt field instead of a grass field? Where is all the money going? Why isn't he afforded a nice gym to play basketball instead of playing on a court with more potholes than blacktop? I guess that's our fault too.. because POOR people control the money and the budgets of this country.... LOL
Black women are being exploited for their bodies. Music execs take full advantage of the BLACK EXPERIENCE.. White kids are running around imitating what we live everyday, singing Tupac and never even SEEN the HOOD.Everything black is exploited for profit! Our music, our food, our very culture! So, when you're poor and you have nothing and someone offers you 5 million dollars to rap over some music about the hard life of the ghetto.. what would u do? Is it right? Do I agree? Am I making excuses.. Hell NO!

It's our responsibility to stop this madness, but when the majority is against you and exploiting every angle of your weakness it's difficult to pull in the masses. I don't watch BET. I don't find it cool to shoot another brotha or sista. My All black brother was shot 9 times... dead!
I grew up in the midst of gang violence. I've been shot at.. beat.. raped... disrespected all by Black men. It's sad. I try to better myself. I try to show my black child what it means to be black.. positive because whether you or anyone else in this fucked up country wants to admit.. He's still going to be a nigga at the end of the day!!

Yes I am half white. I don't recognize that half because it has never been a part of who I am. I am black. I breathe black. I live black. Society doesn't recognize me as a half black/half white woman.. I'm a nigga at the end of the day.. like the rest!

I write what I see. What I've experienced. I'm not an outsider looking in. I'm insider looking out. I've had the priveledge of mixing with all kinds of people, but no matter what the race.. I was still different because I was black. I'm not prejudice. I don't care if someone chooses to date another race. I live in reality and I'm very aware of what's really going on in this country.. Obviously, you're not. Being that you're middle eastern, you should be more empathetic.. Black people aren't lazy or ignorant... Most of their circumstances are 400 years in the making. You can't undo 400 years of oppression in 20 years. You should understand that much just by watching this ridiculous war that is going on. Do you think you're different? Isn't it amazing that people like you can come to this country and get loans for a new business or home, but a black man can barely get a bank account.... You tell me.. I think what you need to do is research your facts before making a statement,.. FYI there are MORE WHITES/MEXICANS receiving government aid than blacks. That is a PROVEN fact! I'm a single parent, yet I don't qualify for most programs because I don't have more than one child or I make TOO much money.. LOL The system is set up to make us fail. That is what it's designed for. It's up to us to beat it and rise above it. That takes hard work, dedication and TIME. IT won't happen over night. But I believe one day ... it will.

Peace.

Just because i live in a middle class neighbourhood doesnt mean i dont know about the outside world. I migrated here from a war torn country-palestine where i watched my father, brothers, baby sister, aunts, uncles and cousins massacred..i watched it all...i was raped and beaten and raped again until they believed i was dead- i was 13...i made my way into Jordan and into the USA and i never looked back..i dont know where my mother is...if she is dead or alive..so i know about tragedy...i know the government is spending money on destroying the middle east and gaining the riches, but thats not what this is about so i shall continue.

Look at u and i and the tragedies that we have seen, yet we both fought our way out of tragedy to educate ourselves and make a better life for ourselves..we did not use our history as an excuse to end up as criminals.we have tried to make something of ourselves...and i too experience racism...i am muslim.

So tell me why is it that you take 2 people from the same type of background, one CHOOSES not to not live in poverty or a life of crime and the other doesn’t? its because one of them took the easy way out.

People faced with lifes tragedys use those as an excuse not to better themselves. They look for an easy way out. They hustle, are on welfare as opposed to even trying to make a better life for themselves.

Look at all the successful blacks, don’t you think that either they or someone in their family had the same strugglesthat many Blacks still face today, if not worse? They were able to do something better with themselves, so why cant the others be like that??

If you dont like the system VOTE!!!! Make yourself heard. Say something. Dont complain..u want a bookstore...make yourself heard until theres one in your neighbourhood!Go to the Mayor...Go to the City Coucilman.. .

Black communities are the way they are because put simply, Blacks dont try to make a better life for themselves.

People who use the fact that they were born and raised in a poor community as a reason to commit crimes and not try is an excuse. Theres always someone out there willing to help and people have to stop being too proud to receive help! Blacks are too proud to take advice or or take up a job offer but not too proud to accept welfare checks or get locked up for drug dealing on the corner… Bl

I don’t think just because I didn’t grow up in the ghetto ( i grew up in a war zone instead)it means that I can’t relate to the struggle of Blacks.

Blacks use their living conditions as an excuse to commit crimes. I’m poor, can’t afford college so I can’t get a good job, so ill be a criminal. Thats rediculous. When you’re in high school, u can always get yourself a job to save for college. And theres also many jobs where u dont even need a degree. Anyways if u focused, u could get yourself a scholorship! Blacks are searching for a handout. They need to stop feeling sorry for themselves and stop trying to blame White people for the results of the poor decisions they make. No one forces you to be a drug dealer so whos fault is it when you get locked up...no one but yourself..
At the end of the day its all up to YOU AND the Quality of Life u want for yourself...u cant let tragedy hold u down..u need to feed off it and make a better life for urself..and u Reese are a perfect example of someone who has not let tragedy get her down..becuase u are constantly fighting to make yourself a success.

Sweetie, I think you need to pack up and move to the nearest ghetto and SEE what is really going on.. all of that is easily said and done... when you're here it's a lot different. Many people here WORK for a living. I see them every morning leaving my community on their way to low paying jobs.

And people commit crime, not as an excuse, but as a means to exist.

My Fiance' is 6'6..big guy..black.. has 5 years of college, very well spoken.. He could NOT get a job anywhere.. he went on several interviews..sent resume's... but as soon as they seen him, NO was the answer. He only has the job now because of connections.

And voting... HA!! Voting means NOTHING.. Al Gore won the majority vote in 2000..there were record number of minorities who voted that year, but who's president?

As far as drug dealers.. u never choose to be a drug dealer. Who would choose that? It's like saying oh I choose to be gay.
People live to survive and if there aren't ANY jobs in your community then what do u do? That's not an excuse, it's reality.

People that have all these suggestions don't live here. I work 30 minutes away from my home. Why aren't there any jobs in my community that pay well enough to survive...

If u can answer those questions then I will recede my point, but you can't.

By the way, I've hustled... been on welfare.. and NOT because I was lazy or looking for a handout. I was working, but after taxes, rent and childcare I could BARELY afford food or gas.. let alone a car note or something as simple as a telephone... So for a number of years, yes I received food stamps, aid or even hustled my way into several new cars... I never sold drugs, but I did other things that are considered illegal. And that's the reality. After I finally found a great paying job after working in the same field for 9 years... I let all that go. I got my own car and I was able to survive without playing the system.

But sometimes that's the way life is... We all have to survive, by any means necessary.
